A little history...
Snaps was formed in March 2004.
The first meeting was held in St Andrews church Hall, Roundhay. At the first meeting 6 families attended. The room booking and organisation was undertaken by Anne Gait MBE, formerly of Leeds Mencap. Her vision was to establish a support group which would operate at a weekend and provide friendship, support and campaign to improve services for people with a learning disabilities their families and carers.
From these 6 families we currently now have 200 families. We run numerous projects and are set for a new and exciting future. From that once a month hour long coffee morning we now meet fortnightly, we run a swim club, we run dance classes, we hold speech & language sessions, we ran a summer school and we produce 300 newsletters each month. We now employ our own physio’s, a swim instructor, a life guard, a dance instructor and a group manager.
We have also established great links with Leeds Metropolitan University – especially the Physio therapy departments and we have regular volunteers to help at all our sessions.
