Meet the Staff Team
We are the main four people who keep SNAPS up and running.
Sam
Grundy
Sam is the groups Chair Person and a co-founder of SNAPS.
My son was born in May 2001 with learning & physical disabilities. I became involved with Leeds Mencap and was appointed as a Trustee at Leeds Mencap in 2003.
In 2004, with the encouragement of a good friend Anne Gait MBE, I became the Chair of the newly formed Snaps group.
I see my role as chair to develop and guide Snaps to become a useful strong local charity providing services to families of a children with disabilities which they need and want. I feel strongly that Snaps should adapt to members needs and only provide services which are not provided elsewhere.
I want to see Snaps develop a strong campaigning voice to effect and bring about much needed change in our local community. I want Snaps to provide a source of friendship and support to local families so they don’t feel that they are alone or isolated. I believe that by working together we can bring about change. I hope to continue to work with both Leeds Mencap and Snaps to make a better more inclusive society for all our children. Contact Sam
Beth Hughes
Beth is the groups Vice Chair and a co-founder of SNAPS
In the year 2000 my life was turned upside down by the birth of my daughter Emma who has Down Syndrome. The Hawthorn Nursery run by Mencap was a vital source of support until Emma was three. After that Emma was in mainstream provision and support stopped. A small group of parents including Sam and I decided that support need to continue and SNAPS was born. I am not only a founder member but I now hold the role of vice chair and the dance class with Jess was one of my initiatives as Emma now 7 is dance mad. Unfortunately I am now unable dedicate as much time to SNAPS as I used as I have increased my hours at work as an Adult Careers Adviser. Contact Beth
Angie Furminger
Angie is the SNAPS General Manager and runs the groups.
I’m Angie and have been involved with SNAPS since September 2007 when I was employed as the General Manager. My role within SNAPS is to organise and run the Saturday group. I initially trained as a teacher and although I have worked in mainstream classrooms I enjoy working with groups who most need support, including young offenders, marginalised people, teaching in prisons. My experience lies in the organisation and development of organisations a role I thoroughly enjoy. I strive to get involved in community activities and have spent the last 2 years as chair of my children’s school parents’ association. Contact Angie
