Volunteers and Volunteering
Beth Hughes, Snaps Vice Chair forged a link with Leeds Metropolitan University in 2004 and established a weekly Speech and Language session for the children.
Unfortunately the project has now ceased but the group has gone on to build links with the Physio therapy department. We now offer 4 / 6 students practical experience with working with our paediatric physio therapist in the hydrotherapy pool.
We are very pleased to be able this year to send 4 of our volunteers on a week long training course in Harrogate to learn the Halliwick method of teaching swimming.
The partnership with LMU see the Snaps group acting as a resource centre for LMU - we provide speakers and LMU provide us with volunteers. We are hoping to develop this relationship further in the future and get more courses involved.
How to become a Volunteer
If you would like to volunteer please don't hesitate to contact us, you don't have to be a student at LMU, currently in education, working with children or have any knowledge of disability issues. If we feel we can offer you a place we will work with you to provide suitable training!
When you apply, you will need to have read our Volunteering Policy and filled in a Volunteer Application Form.
We are required by law to complete a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check for ALL staff and volunteers. Further information for 'why and how' can be found here.
